When I was finishing the book, I thought about the appeal of it and of things like Hallmark Channel (and I dig a good Christmas movie, let me tell you). I think what appeals to some folks who like Hallmark Channel and the cheesy movies is that they are just so easy. It's escapism. My life is a hellscape of anxiety; wouldn't I feel better if I moved to a small town, made a great group of friends, and also found my soulmate? We would live in our small town together in perfect contentment. In our heart of hearts, we know that isn't the solution. Even the films that are based on real events and couples have some creative license, and they aren't a guarantee. We can't all move to small towns. But there's an even bigger reason that Merrill shares: small towns aren't the "fix it" that we all hope they would be. All medical data atrocious ... a phenomenon from medicine is borrowed and twisted and altered to ridiculous extents. Completed the book,perhaps I have a masochist tendency . May 2023 - Wow! For me, the audiobook experience was superior to the physical book experience. Paola's voice is so soothing, which is part of the allure of her channel. First, the writing: It's gorgeous and lyrical, and it teased me into becoming more and more relaxed as I listened to it. There is nothing stressful about Paola's writing. It is lovely to listen to, along with being enthralling. I very much hope that Paola writes a fantasy novel one day. Perhaps about a girl living in the woods, surrounded by faeries and her trustful dog and bunny. Some folks are discovering that a great way to get me to read a book with them is to simply say "I'm thinking about reading this." And maybe the impression wasn't to get me to read it, but they win anyway! I'll be genuinely intrigued enough, especially if my library has the book.
