could have made them exceptional, but without the energy and self confidence to just do it. Interestingly, the here does not need to be instantly dismissed. This is probably the final truly important Jethro Tull In September 2017, Anderson announced plans for a tour to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Tull's first album, This Was; and for a new studio album in 2018, for which the band line-up comprised Anderson, Hammond, Opahle, O'Hara, and Goodier, all members of Anderson's solo band since 2012. When I did finally start seeing cheap(er) copies of the book bound Jethro Tull reissues, Stormwatch was one that I prioritised getting hold of, partly because I felt it as one of the best sounding Tull albums in terms of sound design, partly because I've never felt it got enough love from either bands or fans, and therefore I was interested in what Steven Wilson could do with it, but many because of all of Tull's albums, Stormwatch is the one that has taken me on the most positive journey. The news that a 40th Anniversary Edition of Stormwatch (The Force 10 Deluxe Edition, no less) is on its way reminded me that I hadn’t done a Tull album in quite a while and still had plenty of holes to fill in the Tull narrative. Since I prefer to review original presentations, I decided to get off my beautiful ass and get on with it before the (hopefully) “new and improved” version hits the shelves.

and great double bass action. The vocal lines are some of the best since Songs from the Wood. Parts Still a classic Tull album, maybe their last (only 98's Roots To Branches will be better, IMHO) but also sadly the end of the second classic Tull era. With only Anderson and Barre remaining, the next line-ups will only pale in comparison, never managing stability and it will unfortunately be plainly apparent in studio albums. From the next album onwards, Tull will search for itself in a sound-modernization effort, which will simply never work, badly at times (A), sometimes being catastrophic (Under Wraps). really enjoy the agile moods of 'North Sea Oil', and let alone, love the varied majesty of 'Dark Ages' as well Gary Claydon: Transitional Tull and it shows. The upheaval and general dissatisfaction in the band and Ian Anderson's restlessness results in an uneven, faintly frustrating album, that falls the right side of enjoyable – but only just.Ian Anderson is on top form, so are Martin Barre, John Evan, Barrimore Barlow and Dee / Dave Palmer, the latter who wrote the surprisingly good Elegy.
