This world is an all-time fave, if you haven’t started these books now, you are missing out. I cannot get enough, and I absolutely loved this one! also, I WAS SO PISSED THAT ALLES BETRAYED THEM!!! i was starting to vibe with his flirtatious and he goes and kidnaps sera and turns her over to kolis 🧍🏻‍♀️ All of that build-up is worth it when the sexy time comes, because there is so much between these two. The sex is just a reflection of the tumultuous chemistry and depth of feelings between them, and it’s all so freaking intense! He pinned me with a bland look. “If it makes you feel better to do so, then go ahead. I’m sure it will entertain Nektas.” Even though I was a little annoyed near the end by Sera’s unending inner talks about her feelings for Nyktos, I still like her as the main character. She is still strong and determined to do whatever it takes to help the mortal realm, and also the Shadowlands because she came to care for the people she met there. The author did a splendid job with her, and I will be happy to read another book with her as the main character, as long as the long inner monologues are toned down a bit.

It didn’t matter that I’d believed it was the only way to save my kingdom. nyk is so caring and protective over sera. i just love the way he expresses his jealousy and anger when someone hurts her. i get butterflies when his shadows appear 🥹😩😍🥵 Of course A Light in the Flame is not all problems, battles and sadness. There are so very spicy, sexy times that had me sweating and wishing I could find my own Ash.

I think JLA conjured an intriguing fantastical world and that was one of my favorite elements about this series, but there are limits to how much world-building the series would continue to need. It can be overwhelming and hard to digest. HOWEVER, the end of Chapter 28 and Chapter 29 left me in tears. I was screaming (on the inside) and pleading that whatever it was Sera walked in on was NOT at all what she truly believed. Her losing control was heartbreaking and filled me with so much sorrow. I barely suppressed a shudder. “And what would he do to Nyktos if he attempted to shield me from Kolis?”

Gemma had been the first I’d heard use the word graeca. She’d said that Kolis had often spoken of his graeca and that she believed it was related to whatever he was doing with the missing Chosen who returned as something different and not quite right. Something cold. Lifeless. Hungry. The rest of the Shadowlands crew play a big part. I loved getting to know these fabulous characters even more, and there are several characters in particular who just shine, and the friendly snark and teasing is so freaking entertaining as they grow closer.
