About this deal

Dopo averli letti entrambi uno dopo l'altro devo dire però che messo a fianco dell'opera del decennale, questa impallidisce abbastanza. I don't know whether Mr. Gaiman had mentors to instruct him about Japanese cultures or not, but I like how Japanese traditional cultural elements, folklore, and demonic mythology are sewn seamlessly with the plots and the mythology of The Sandman. In the realm of dreams, the King of All Night's Dreaming is satisfied by the story, and that everyone involved learned an important lesson. The narration then suggests that the monk and the fox were re-united in the afterlife; but this is purposely ambiguous. This is an illustrated novella, written by Neil Gaiman and drawn by Yoshitaka Amano. It takes place in the universe of The Sandman series, but I think that it can be very easily read from someone who has no idea about the series. While the artwork is lovely and complements the story, I’m detracting a star because I didn’t really get anything new from this version. The original novella is already beautifully illustrated by Yoshitaka Amano, and while Sandman was always at home in the graphic novel world, I find that the original format chosen for this particular story works better.

The plan is successful, but the monk is distraught at the fox's condition and leaves his temple to find the means to awaken her. He encounters Binzuru Harada who instructs him on how to find the King of All Night's Dreaming. After a journey through the realm of dreams, during which he encounters the Japanese counterparts of Fiddler's Green and Cain and Abel from the Sandman comics, he arrives at the palace. The gatekeeper, an Itsumade, eventually lets him in. A raven, who is the departed spirit of a poet, guides him through it, and he is granted an audience. In the realm of dreams, the King of All Night's Dreaming and the raven ponder the events and their significance; The King of All Night's Dreaming is satisfied that events played out as they should have and that everyone involved learned an important lesson, particularly the monk. The narration ends implying that monk and the fox might have ended up together, but remains inconclusive. Sandman: The Dream Hunters was released by DC Comics under its Vertigo imprint as a four-issue monthly miniseries from November 2008 to February 2009, featuring cover art by Yuko Shimizu, Mike Mignola, Paul Pope and Joe Kubert. It’s yet another story of sacrifice and obligation, of love and honor and commitment, set amidst high fantasy and dark dealings and the shifting veil of the world that lies beyond sleep.

A fox spirit and a badger (which might refer to the more folkloric tanuki) make a bet that whichever of them drives a Buddhist monk from his temple can claim it as their own. Both of them fail, and the badger flees in disgrace. The fox, however, has fallen in love with the monk. She apologizes to him in the form of a beautiful woman, and he allows her to stay in the temple provided she does not cause him any more trouble.

You may be aware of who is Neil Gaiman, the renowed British writer that got fame precisely with The Sandman comic book series, but also he has written several prose novels like American Gods, Stardust, Coraline, The Graveyard Book and The Ocean at the End of the Lane, just to mention some of the most popular ones. NEXT: The finale of the Sandman reread with some of the world’s best comic book artists telling of the Endless Nights. It's a match made in heaven, Neil Gaiman crossover Yumihiko Amano!!!! Both are titans in their own fields! Probing deeper after that unsatisfactory reply, and additional exchanges between Dream and his winged charge, the Raven asks, pointedly, “And you also learn a lesson?”
