About this deal

Definitely would recommend this to fans of the psychological thriller.... was it the best I’ve ever read? no, but it was pretty darn good!

Many thanks to Crooked Lane Books of New York for sending a beautiful complimentary copy of Cate Holahan's upcoming new novel in exchange for an honest review. The author has two other books prior to this one. I might give them a chance, depending on the plot and setting. I've read another book in the last few years like this one, but I can't recall the title. It's not a common story where there is 1 real story and 1 fake story an author is writing, which makes it a different type of read. You're sure to be excited and thrilled at parts, but you will also be confused at some parts. LIES SHE TOLD alternates between Lisa's real life struggles at home and the volatile story developing in her current work of fiction... AND...just to make matters even more complex, Cate Holahan weaves in a few surprises and some long buried childhood memories to reek further havoc on Lisa's already erratic state of mind making for one crazy good read!

I also struggled with this book because I really didn't care for either of the two “main characters”. Now let me explain that I don't have a maternal bone in my body. So, one character doing everything possible to get pregnant and another willing to stay in an unhappy marriage for the sake of a child were not characters I could relate to. The average score I've assigned the book is somewhat of a “it's not you, it's me” situation, given that I am definitely in the minority of not being entranced by this book. The Lies She Told is a highly Compelling story about relationships, infatuation, a web of deceit and lies, jealousy and revenge. The characters were perfectly written, each one believable and provoked the right emotions for this type of book.

She grabbed my arm and took the knife that was in her hand to cut a line down the middle of my wrist.

From the author of the USA Today–bestselling novel The Widower’s Wife, comes an electrifying story of love and deceit, where the truth can be darker than fiction.

Neither Liza or Beth were terribly likable, however I found them very sympathetic and real.... The twists and turns in this book were wild and took you on quite the crazy ride! Somethings I saw coming while others I definitely did not.... The ending was so well done and very plausible(Always a bonus).... First off I'm Billie, I'm 23 and I have 2 siblings, my twin sister Ellie and my older brother Finneas. I love music obviously and got famous off of it...for a while. I quit when it was 16 because of the pressure my team put on me and my siblings, we made music together by the way. I ripped off the tank-top she was wearing then took off her panties since it was also the only thing that she was wearing. I have to admit that getting into the story was difficult at first and demanded mental effort. Given the tremendous similarities between the two story lines, I had trouble telling them apart. Hence my frustration. The more the story unfolded, the more engrossed in it I became.Lots of strong characters which I loved and I love how the author painted such a great picture of the characters in your mind, I could imagine exactly what they looked like. The writing in the beginning of the book isn’t too bad- not ‘good’ but better than the latter end of the book. Some of it was okay. As Lorelei’s podcast about Agatha’s story becomes a success, Meghan continues to shun the ambitious young journalist. But Lorelei persists with her investigations and eventually comes face to face with Agatha. Meanwhile, Agatha fights to hold on to her baby as the authorities attempt to identify the prison officer who fathered it. Grace and Simon decide to make their relationship known to Grace’s sister Meghan, but Meghan’s past with Simon has a potentially destructive secret at its core. You're not going to steal from me again are you?" I whispered to her continuing to pound into her from behind. Hard and rough, I was showing her no mercy whatsoever if you couldn't already tell.
