About this deal

These remasters both included the 12'‘ extended version of War Child (incorrectly spelt “Warchild” on the 1994 release) as its only bonus track. However, the album is nowhere near the utter disaster that is painted by the press and by some Blondie fans. I understand all the fuss and negative attention this album got over 30 years ago, but for me "The Hunter" is a thing of beauty (minus the hideous album cover). It was produced by Mike Chapman, who produced every Blondie album during their initial run with the only exceptions being the first two, Blondie and Plastic Letters. Misunderstood gem The dip in quality is quite scary when you compare this album to Autoamerican or even the last two releases before that, but right here we find Blondie giving us some of their strongest songs.

War Child”: a fierce electro-disco with stabs of percussion and wind instruments – again, a faultless track. It's not really a gem, but it's certainly underrated and also hugely diverse (the intense jungle rock of "Orchid Club," the sci-fi "Dragonfly," reggae of "Island of Lost Souls" and "Little Caesar," low-key jazz of the Smokey Robinson cover "The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game"), which makes for an adventurous listen.Danceaway" was planned for release as a single in Canada (backed with "For Your Eyes Only"), but was issued only extremely briefly before the single was withdrawn. War Child was largely ignored outside of the United Kingdom and Ireland (where it reached 39 and 21, respectively). English Boys" is sweetly serene, and contains some of Debbie's most introspective lyrics about how the world was changing during her formative years. Producer Mike Chapman (please read the short essay written by him in the liner notes) knew this would be the last Blondie record he would ever produce.

In the liner notes to the 2001 reissue of The Hunter, producer Mike Chapman stated, "I knew that we were in a different and far less accessible artistic space. A curiously poetic and mysterious lyric, delivered in a dreamier side to Harry's voice, glides over the pulsating tribal drums of Clem Burke. Orchid Club”, “Dragonfly” and “The Beast” are among the most interesting Blondie ever created, experimenting with hypnotic beats and unconventional song structures, hinting – along with “Fade Away and Radiate” from Parallel Lines – toward a parallel-world instance of Blondie as a trancey ambient-techno unit. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. English Boys" is Harry and Chris Stein's melancholy tribute to "those English boys who had long hair", the Beatles, recorded the year after John Lennon's assassination in New York City, describing the innocence and idealism of the 1960s.The final three tracks are the most casual and melancholy starting with, "(Can I) Find the Right Words (To Say)" which is a beautiful ballad with a great synth. The Hunter" isn't as flashy like "Autoamerican" or have much variety like "Eat to the Beat", but what this album does have is a heart and soul. Tracks on the album include Jimmy Destri's Motown pastiche "Danceway", while "Dragonfly" has a science-fiction theme to its lyrics about a race in space.
